Part-Time Law Enforcement Eligible for KLEFPF Funding

As part of his efforts to support law enforcement and boost public safety, Gov. Andy Beshear outlined his budget recommendations on Aug. 9, 2023, which included making part-time local law enforcement officers eligible for the Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation Program Fund (KLEFPF) training stipend. The General Assembly accepted the Governor’s proposal, and as of July 15, 2024, qualifying part-time law enforcement personnel will now receive the stipend.

Under this new part-time salary supplement program, qualifying part-time personnel may receive salary supplements of up to $2,215 in Fiscal Year 2024-2025 and up to $2,281 in Fiscal Year 2025-2026.

To receive this supplement, the officer’s agency must accurately report to the Law Enforcement Training and Reporting System the hours worked by its qualifying part-time personnel for the preceding calendar month by the 8th day of the current month.

In accordance with KRS 15.460, the salary supplement for part-time participants is capped in each fiscal year, and payments will continue until the maximum yearly stipend, outlined above, is reached for each part-time employee. Once each part-time officer reaches the program’s yearly cap, there will be no further distribution of salary supplements for that officer until the next fiscal year, as required by statute.
